Change :)

I look in my wardrobe and it makes me sad. I find more shirts and trousers, than my jeans... Sensible shoes line the bottom shelf, shoving my strappy heels out of sight. Laptop bags have replaced my leather bags and multicoloured jholas, and there is a drawer dedicated to “formal earrings”... I can’t find my bangles, my huge earrings, cocktail rings anymore without a mammoth search! Bank statements litter my bedside table drawers, credit card statements and phone bills worry the shit out of me! My research papers are a pile on my table, books and articles and what not!! My last novel was I think a year back... Late night texts come only from naukri.comor monster jobs and Sundays are spent catching up on sleep.
I don’t know when we grew up but threes no denying that we have. Worker drones now, queen bees of years gone past.
Up without an alarm and in bed by midnight, our social lives are practically nonexistent. A horrible shade of grey I never thought I would become.
But somehow, in all the non drama, and boringness, we’re somehow still the same. A two hour phone conversation, incessant whatsapp pings keep us as involved in each other’s lives as of were still 3 doors down from each other.
Still here for the randomness, still here for the gossip about people we don’t even care about, still here as support, as a safety net, still here for the advice-good and bad, for the drunk dialling, for the ex bashing and bad planning, were still around. And it’s easy to be us when we’re all there :)
Happy growing up!!

Life's a Mix

Its about time.

I am writing about this day, which, by far, has been a weird concoction of good times and bad times, of times when I've felt like crying and of times when I've felt like my heart's gonna burst with laughter.

It is the birthday of my bestest friend. The girl who has, in more ways than one, shaped me to be what I am today. And, to celebrate, I partied with 10 little kids at Victoria Memorial.

It was a Memorial in the truest sense of the term.

Thank you, Ani, for the enthusiasm you showed and the push you gave me.

I could feel my friend in every moment of the day. Be it the cutting of the cake by the Home Mother, or the squeals of the children or the chanting of "Happy Birthday to you...", I could feel her in every moment.
The children were not told the real reason for the party, or the fact that it was someone's birthday beforehand. It was simply, an outing for them, a time when they too could enjoy.
It seemed to me to be the best thing that could be done on my friend's birthday.. Given how she loved children, how she loved Victoria and how she loved picnics.

This was something I did very impromptu. Not even my closest friends had much idea about the plan. I wish I had Ani there, it would have made it complete. But thanks to Priya, for all the support!

Now to the day. Priya and the kids and the teachers of the Home were travelling to Victoria and I was supposed to meet them their direct from office. Priya had met all of them before, but for me it was the first time.

As I approached the group standing at the gates, I was filled with sadness. How I wish that my friend would have been there enjoying the day with me....

It was 2 years ago.. I had given her such a big surprise by actually landing up in her city on her birthday. I still can't forget the happiness on her face.. The smile and the warmth with which she had hugged me tight...

Enough of dreaming about the past.. I had a task at hand, and I had to ensure that my friend had the bestest birthday ever!

Somehow, I managed to get the courage to go through that day..
And today, as I look back, i think i did the best thing ever.

Ma.

There are little things from childhood that one always tends to remember.. The first friend, the first scary movie, the first crush...

I remember my first slam book.. I had filled it for a girl called Sanaa in my class. Must have been in Class II. Like most slam books or autograph books, it had lots of silly questions..

What is love according to you?

Ans. Rubbish in the dustbin!!
Yes!! Im serious, this was one of my patented lines when I was little.. Wish I believed it later in life!

Who is your favourite actor and actress?

Ans. Akshay Kumar and Kajol!

Even then I had a dislike for SRK! Thankfully, this hasn't changed!

Who is your best friend?

Ans. My mom

This, I suppose was written then so that I didn't hurt my other close friends. It was a perfect goody-goody answer, no one could accuse me of partiality (yes, people used to do that then. I was pretty popular!)

But as time has flown, I realised how correct I was. My best friend is indeed my mother.
Throughout 21 years of my existence, she is the one who has loved me truly. She is my true friend, motivator, confidante, guide.. you name it!
I have had many many friends, some too close, some not. But she is consistent, ever-present, whenever I need her. Many of my friends have left me, she is still there. I guess she's too patient to tolerate someone like me, while others run away.

Just to say ma, I love you. You're my best best friend. I promise to always be there. Plz keep my secrets safe! :)

"Liquid Sense is the best pheromone based formula which when applied serves to stimulate and attract opposite sex.

Pheromone is from Greek word Pheran – to transfer and Horman – to excite. It is found throughout the living world and is the ancient form of animal communication. It is a naturally occurring chemical compound found in all insects, animals, and humans.

Humans use the pheromones to communicate on a subconscious level with one another. They are detected and transmitted by a small organ in the nose, known as the VNO or vomeronasal organ. Researchers at the University of Colorado found that the VNO in the nose functions as the distinct sensory apparatus that detects and transmits to the hypothalamus in the brain that controls basic drives and emotions.

Liquid Sense is applied in the same areas, as you would normally put your favorite perfume or cologne. This includes your wrists, neck, chest, behind your ears etc.

Crash and Boom!

Last night, someone pointed out to me, that my blog does not have any “happy” entries. I decided then, that I would post one today.

But as it turns out, the events of today are such that this post too wont be happy. Rather, its gonna be about a very scary thing that happened today.

I had gone to salt lake, to a friend’s place. I had used public transport, and that is not a cause of worry. Several times earlier, I have used public transport to travel to that part of the city.

Like today, I had to go to the same friend’s place on Monday. That day too, I had used public transport. It is usually 5 or 5:30 when I have to leave to come back. On Monday, a friend of mine had dropped me to a metro station on her scooty. It was a brilliant ride, but I was so taken up in my own thoughts that I hardly noticed. It was my first scooty ride and frankly I should have noticed more of it.

Today too, the plan was same. I reached at approximately the same time, and was supposed to leave by 5 and my friend was dropping me to the metro station.

Unfortunately, things never go according to my plans!!!

By the time I thought I had to leave, the sky had turned dark. Normally, the monsoons are supposed to arrive by now. But the met dept says they are delayed. My bad luck that they decided to arrive today! It had started raining a little and that’s when I realised I was gonna be in big trouble. I decided to wait till the rains slowed down a bit. A scooty ride would be very difficult if we were handling raincoats or umbrellas. And, of course, we did not want to get wet. So we decided to wait. This decision too, was incorrect. The storm got worser and worser. The rains were coming down hard and fast, the winds were now transformed into a strong gale. The windows were rattling and the trees looked like they would snap into two. I was so shit scared! I didn’t know what to do! I had to reach home as soon as possible, and I had no means to reach except by public transport. I didn’t want to take a cab in salt lake. It was either a metro or a whiteliner. And in either case I had to go and catch them from somewhere, it was not available at my doorstep!

One distressed call to a school friend, and bang, everything fell into place. There was a car waiting for me, it dropped me where I wanted to go.

But then came the scary part. I had to walk a little distance to reach the car, coz the driver didn’t know the exact building. As I ran out of the building towards the car, handling a big bag and an umbrella, there was a big flashing bolt of lightning. I got blinded for a moment, closed my eyes for just a second. Suddenly, I heard this big resounding crash. Something like a big roar! It seemed so close-by. I opened my eyes, just in time to see this big tree tilt precariously. And then, just after a mini-second, it gave way, and came crashing to the ground. It sent splinters and branches flying in all directions. One of the branches came and hit the car that was waiting for me. I was so damn scared! My friend gave me a nudge forward, I ran to the car, and clambered in! It felt so nice to be back, safe!

I dunno, from now on, I will be really scared of thunderstorms! I loved walking in them, getting wet in the rain, but next time all that I will be reminded of will be that I just narrowly missed that tree!!!
